The Harder I Work, The Luckier I Get

Some people say successful people are simply the product of some kind of advantage given to them or some kind of lucky break or inheritance.  I’m sure that sort of thing does happen from time to time, but it sure never happened to me.  Actually, I know better than to play the lottery or to hope for good things to happen.  You want to know why?  I’m not lucky.

...success is not easy...

I can tell you from past experience that success is not easy to hold onto and bad things can happen no matter how hard you work, but hard work and honesty puts the odds in your favor of having good things happen or recovering from bad things that happened. Just look at the people who actually do win the lottery.  In just a few short years, they are normally back to where they were before they struck it rich.  Even if they invest in a business it’s sure to fail because they rely on luck instead of themselves and hard work.

So what then is the point to this story?  The point is that in this country you can still grow up poor and be President or a successful businessman like Bill Gates.  What does that tell you?  Get up off that sofa and do something to make your life better.  Plant a garden, fine-tune your résumé and get a better job, invent something, go back to school, start a business...just do something. Anything is better than just sitting there listening to people say you can’t do something or tell you it’s a bad time to start a business.

...a great time to start a business...

Right now is a great time to start a business in the 573.  Just open your eyes and look around.  There are a lot of businesses who no longer have any competition.  Their competitors couldn’t readjust their business or service to the temporary stagnation and closed their doors.   The ones who rolled with the changes and adjusted their thinking are doing just fine.  Maybe not as good as before, but talk to them in a few months and you will see they will be back to where they were in no time flat.

There are those who are licking wounds and there are those who are making good money right here right now.  If they were both dogs, one would be chewing on a nice meaty bone laying in his carpeted doghouse and the other would be lying around in the dirt scratching fleas hoping for someone to toss him a bone.  Luck has nothing to do with any of it.  If you lost everything and have to start over, then get up and start over.

"What we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down."  -Mary Pickford

Things may have changed, but remember this; the local economy is like a seesaw.  When the need for something goes down, a need for something else goes up.  Luck has nothing to do with that either.  It’s just simple mathematics.

So stop moping in the dirt, plant your feet firmly on the ground and push off as hard as you can. Only you can get yourself back up and out of that slump. It's not going to happen just sitting around waiting for a lucky break. You gotta break out of the mold, create your own luck and make it happen. Get Out There!
