Carisa Stark is the owner and proprietor of multiple successful businesses in the area, including the Urban Lofts Air B&B, JStreet BrewCo, the famous Mary Jane Burgers & Brew all in Perryville, and the new but instant local favorite, Mary Jane Bourbon & Smokehouse in Cape Girardeau. Creating and expanding her own empire over the years, local business superhero and visionary Carisa welcomed the 573 Podcast to stop by her epically popular eatery on Broadway in Cape for a nice little chat. Discussing her local upbringing, her commitment to creating a fun and close nit community, and the secret to her amazing success, Carisa Stark is a great example of getting out there and staying positive!

Tell us about your upcoming event, Bourbon on Broadway.
On April 9th, we’re going to have an evening event outdoors. There’ll be live music by Reeves Rovers. They are a foot-stompin good time. Lol. It’s loud, it’s fun, it’s Irish! We’ll have a ton of distributors here, vendors, distilleries that will be sampling out their bourbons. Chef Matt has made a really great street food menu to sample out on the patio as well which is going to be lit up by lights. It’s really a magical experience. The glow of the lights, the sound of the music, the clinking of glasses, the laughter…it’s a really fun experience to be a part of. We sell out every year. We limit it to 150 people and tickets are selling so fast, so make sure that you buy your ticket right away.
Tell us about the promo video that was made.
So this was a really fun opportunity. Puncher’s Chance is a bourbon that was introduced. We got to go down to Louisville, Kentucky, go into the distillery, choose the style of bourbon that we wanted and they bottled and labeled it for us. Puncher’s Chance partnered with Bruce Buffer to do an awesome promo video for their bourbon, and he did a personalized video for us. It was such a fun promo video to see, and it was just really exciting.
