“In truth, Yoga doesn’t take time – it gives time.” -Ganga White

In this super busy high-stressed fast-paced modern world, it’s hard to find the time to take care of everything... including ourselves, unfortunately.  I have found my schedule so unbearably full that I’ve missed even the simplest self-care routines like taking vitamins, getting in my 8 hours of Zzzz, or even eating.  As a working mom in the 573, it’s hard to find time to use the bathroom, let alone complete a daily fitness regimen...which is precisely why Yoga is perfect for me.

I really love the way you can do Yoga pretty much anytime, anywhere. There are classes and private instructors. You can find it on YouTube, DVD, or even get an illustrated book. You can find moves to tone specific areas in online blogs and magazine articles. (Wii Fit is how I originally started to learn the poses. Lol.)

This 573 Magazine Story is brought to you by the groovy people at WorkSPACE co-working office space in Farmington, Missouri!

As long as you have a few minutes ...

It’s literally the most flexible fitness routine I’ve ever tried. Lol. I can do it at home, in the office, and even on set. As long as you have a few minutes to wait, you have time to spend on Yoga, and believe me – it’s worth it! Now for those of you who have no idea what Yoga is all about, let’s slow it down and start at the beginning.

What is Yoga?

Honestly, most people have no idea - something to do with stretching and meditation...right? According to the ALL KNOWING Wikipedia, Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. Yoga is one of the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophical traditions.

Yoga uses an original language called Sanskrit, meaning “refined speech,” which is an ancient language of India and is often used during most yoga classes to describe poses and postures.

...more than physical exercise; it has a meditative and spiritual core.

Yoga gurus from India introduced Yoga to the West in the late 19th and early 20th century with an adaptation of yoga tradition. It has developed into a posture-based physical fitness, stress-relief, and relaxation technique. Yoga in Indian traditions, however, is more than physical exercise; it has a meditative and spiritual core.

Today Yoga has evolved to include several subsets of the discipline, including Buti Yoga, which combines Yoga and tribal dancing. Aerial Yoga, which has you doing those ancient poses in the air on silk hammocks, and even Chair Yoga and Aqua Yoga for seniors, beginners, and people with movement issues.

...No more excuses...

With so many new places popping up during this ever-growing health and fitness craze and so many ways to find information for independent home workouts, learning and doing Yoga has never been easier and more cost-efficient than it is right now.  So no more excuses. Pull yourself out of that sunken sofa and find your way to a better, happier, healthier you!
